Sony announced that the worldwide shipments of PlayStation 5 have reached 38.4 million units as of March 31, 2023. As per the company’s recent financial results, a total of 6.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles were shipped within the three-month window that ended on the same date, which represents a growth of 4.3 million units compared to the previous year’s Q1 figures.

Additional statistics provided by the company revealed that there are now 47.4 million PlayStation Plus subscribers, an equivalent number to the same period last year. As of March 31, 2023, there were also 108 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, an increase of two million from the previous year.

While Sony’s PlayStation 5 has been selling well, its console and software sales saw a drop in numbers. During the three months ending March 31, 2023, the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 software combined sold 68 million units. This represents a decline of 2.5 million units compared to the same period in the previous year. Among these sales, 9.5 million were first-party titles, which saw a dip of five million from the previous year’s Q1 numbers. Digital downloads contributed to 70% of total software sales, which is slightly down from the previous year’s figure.
