Microsoft announced that Age of Empires 1 is effectively returning as an expansion pack for Age Of Empires 2: Definitive Edition with ‘Return of Rome’ DLC. The upcoming DLC pack will add 17 AoE civilisations to the recent remaster out of which 16 are from the original game, and one is the brand new Return of Rome exclusive Lac Viet civilization. The teaser released by Microsoft showcases the new DLC pack that will allow players to challenge friends with the original 16 Age of Empires civilizations, relive the ancient world with three new campaigns as well as the bonus of playing as the Romans with no time-bound feature.

As of now, Microsoft has not given detailed rollout plans for the upcoming Age of Empires 2 DLC pack including whether it will release on Xbox consoles day and date. However, given the excellent console port of the base game, it is expected that the expansion will come to Xbox soon.

This announcement has created a buzz among Age of Empires’ fans, especially after Microsoft re-released Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition in 2019 with 4K graphics support and enhanced game mechanics. The game has become extremely popular among PC gamers, and its popularity led Microsoft to come up with new civilizations, campaigns, and expansion packs.
